They call the NY System, but they seem to be a Rhode Island thing. I'm making a batch, so keep it down.

Looks like it'd be hard to keep anything down after eating one of them 😛

Mmmmm...gotta love a good chili dog. Chili dogs are big in NJ--except they call them "Texas Weiners".

They make them just like those "NY System" ones. Good stuff! I think I'm going to have to try that meat sauce recipe.

I guess those are called 'Rippers'... Our NY system weenies are also called 'Gagers'.

The ones I made were pretty good, but I did not simmer my meats for 2 hours... that is just crazy!

I also had to use Cajun spice because I had no chilli powder. They were still pretty good!

and this is about hotdogs lol sorry dude
i did go to the url and saw the recipe meat sauce with allspice in it isnt exactly a common american ingredient but is used extensively throughout the world
anyway for a good hotdog ... where i work we have hotdogs smothered in chili and cheese with bacon

Looks good except for the mustard. Spicy brown mustard is (IMO) a much better way to go.

I love a good chilidog, but since I started working nights, I seem to have developed a bit of GERD, so they are now a rare treat for me which I end up paying for later... 🙁

but what do you mean allspice is not a common american ingredient? it's used in all sorts of things, but I must admit, you see it used most often in america in pies and such, but I wouldn't exactly call it uncommon in meat dishes, either... in fact, the allspice jar in my spice rack is a little less than half full... 🙂

chili is mostly a regional thing
i did see a pbs special series the spice of life ,and i noticed allspice was used in foreign countries as a meat seasoning.( too me is for pies)
i live in the south west also (colorado)
here we have green and red chili
here for red chili you use chili powder garlic powder black pepper
and go from there ...anything from beer to peanut butter has been found in chili
dang it im gettin the munchies already 😉
