i've come accross a few theories as to why clapton's called "slowhand", and was just wondering if anyone knows the truth?

Some of his leads were considered quite fast at that time (for that day and age). Now players commonly have shredding capabilities.

I heard the story of during a concert, he broke a string, and restrung his guitar himself, while on stage, this took so long to do people then started calling him "slowhand"

I heard that it was because, even when he is picking out quite quick lead, his picking hand hardly appears to move.

that's what i heard, but the fretboard position sounds more true (so, as jimslyp69 heard, his hand appears not to move).
