As I've been using the RHP forums more I've come to have clearer view of the diversity of members, their values and sometimes extreme attitudes there are here. There are moments when I’ve split my sides laughing with genuine joy at the immense humour of some posters, times when I’ve felt stunned by harshness of life’s misfortune of a particular member, times when I’ve posted without due care for the person I was addressing and regretted it (sorry), and times when I’ve found myself incensed by a crassness, vileness or hatefulness that transcends most of the negativity you see everyday life.
This site is the first online community I've been a member of, and I have come to realise there is of course a forum etiquette and written rules that are as a clear as crystal yet as ambiguous as the British weather. But it’s the rules that seem to provide the framework for the entertainment; the naughty words, the controversial bannings, the campaigning, the silly politics, the science vs. religion, the strategic brown-nosing and the episodic Tom & Jerry clan rivalries all provide more weekend entertainment than Celebrity Bitch-Fest, Men & motors and Sky Sports put together.................ok maybe not Sky Sports. I fear it is all becoming an addiction. I am very busy IRL as many of us are, and coming to RHP is a welcome break from it all in terms of chess and the forums. It takes a fair bit of time though and other things have suffered a little, should I be concerned, is this trend others have noticed?
I just wanted to write this somewhat personal note amongst the carnage and melee, in which to extend my gratitude to this site, its designers and its members, for enabling me to watch less TV, put on weight and to gain a little insight into the thoughts and attitudes of a group of people, who I’ve never met, probably will never meet, and yet in some dimension I seem to care about. It’s good to make your acquaintance. DG.

Originally posted by divegeesterI don't own a TV anymore, I would much rather browse these forums that watch any mind numbing drivel on tv.

Organise a meet-up and express your care by providing free beer and I'm there! 😛
