100 years ago today.
Poland miraculously defeats Russia at the Battle of Warsaw.

This victory halted the spread of communism. With a communist Poland
on its doorstep, communism rather than fascism, could have likely dictated
the political scene in Germany, and any European war would likely have seen
the might of Russia and Germany united against western Europe.

Operation Stream Line Jane begins on Madagascar.

British and Commonwealth troops with Dutch and Polish naval support
seize the entire island from the Vichy French by the end of October.

as it denied them a naval base in the western Indian Ocean.
