for all those vegie heads out their that may par-take in the odd soy bean type products made to taste like sausages, steaks and chicken etc , i wonder if you realy know how these things are made. Well in case you dont well read on and find out .

firstly the soy protein is converted into textured vegetable protein or (TVP) . This is completed by grinding the beans and removing the protein with a petroleum solvent, alcohol and hydrochloric acid. The refined protein is disolved in a alkali , which is then precipitated in an acid bath as filaments . these filaments threads are soaked in artificial binders , flavour , and colors . the cemented fibers are mixed with fat and a few minerals and vitamins to simulate the natural meats.

MMMmmmm , where can i get some of those ...... i think i will stick the the real thing . some food for thought 😀

isn't that exactly the same as the 'listen to what goes into sausages' argument? If so isn't it likely to incite the usual arguments of 'this is how an animal is killed', 'this is how the meat is treated', which wil be a pointless debate because it is totally dependant on the speakers ethics. Personally, if it tastes good and it's not against my personal views, I'll eat it.

Further, as the back-and-forth arguing continues, the probability that one side will resort to using a Hitler reference will approach 1. 😉

Mmmm, sausages.... 😏

I think it's more a matter of levels of hygiene in the manufacture of these foods. After all cooking doesn't necessarily kill all the microbes in the food. There's also the matter of toxins getting into food - wasn't there a dioxin scare a few years ago about meat produced in Belgium?

Wondering about how food is produced isn't all about ethics.

Is this supposed to be an argument against vegetarianism? True, the process of making these substitute meats does seem very disagreeable but the point still stands that this process doesn't involve cruelty to animals, which eating meat does.
