The story goes as follows: Personally I'm not bothered too much by people using chessengines, but I have a friend who goes totally berserk when he thinks he got cheated and a few days ago the following happened to him.He plays a tourney and has 3 variations worked out at home which he's eager to try.He tried them against me and absolutely slaughtered me.We're rated about the same so his lines are pretty sound for our level. In the tourney he gets the chance to play 2 of them against opponents rated 150 below him. Both of them manage to whip up an impeccable defense in just a few minutes after which they take control of the game and go on to win. Both players' rating is established and hasn't changed much over a long period of time, they're not rising stars.
What do you think,is this a coincedence?Did he get cheated?
He says he'll never play online again,as he said so many times before 😉
Any thoughts on this are welcome.I'll let him read it,maybe it'll cool him down some before he smashes my furniture 😕
Sir Lot.

Also, run the game through your computer engine and see what the engine thinks and does? Might give more clues?! Perhaps he played this open bad, and you played it worse!
Good luck!

But you try to tell him that. It's hard to reason with him at this point.Maybe in a few days.....
Originally posted by SirLoseALotSo we all agree, he played a cheater!

Read that thread,it was me who said that.Maybe the leg end said it too?I still stand by it,but my friend has a 'slightly' different view
If he played cheaters with established ratings, rated at his level, they can't be very good. And why cheat in ONE tournament against ONE specific player, and no-one else?
Most people who use comps on ICC etc. would be rated waaaay above 2200. I tend to think most accusations of cheating from people below, say, 2400 on ICC are without much foundation for that reason.
Originally posted by OsseThat's about how I feel too.Though in this case there were prizes (membershiop extension),but still not much to start cheating all of a sudden. On the other hand, there are people who play fair for a long period and then start cheating 'cause they are tired of getting beaten (or whatever reason).

They could have been cheating in other games as well, not just against him.
Meh,I guess we'll never know.
Originally posted by marinakatombI doubt it would help,I think my friend has developed 'cheaterphobia'.I already told him to stick to OTB chess.
Tell him to play blitz at playchess.com. They are catching cheaters all the time, everytime they catch one there account is deleted and their IP flagged in case they re-subscribe! It's run by chessbase so i guess they must have some pretty sh*thot developers 😉
But online chess is so easy and comfy 🙂

I am sure it happens everywhere. I don't really worry about it - sure you can cheat their way to a higher rating but the only person who cares out how good you are is yourself. And if your victories are not your own work, where is the satistaction?
Not because I care too much about losing (as my stats adaquatly prove), but because I don't understand why anyone would!
It's not like you're gonna win great prizes. It's not like that when you go to your local pub and play a game of chess you're suddenly gonna be Fisher. It's not like your social status increases by being a good on-line chess player....
"Hi, I'm Mark...I've got a 1700 score on Red Hot Pawn Dot Com."
Wait a minute...that line will pull a thousand girls...I'm sure!
Originally posted by shavixmirThis is a bit off thread but as I was reading your post I took the reference to the "1700 rating" literally and wondered why we had not met in any rounds?.

So I checked the archives and discovered that you haven't played any tourney's and that leads naturally to my next Q: Why? Or why not? Just curious?

PS: the edit was to change the syntax.

I take it from your post they are two very different things!
Also, I was stating 1700 as being an example of someone who's been cheating (or not) on the chess site and is using this figure to seduce women.
I'm afraid I'm stuck at around 1280 to 1320... So, even if it was a great way to pull women, it still wouldn't work for me.
Originally posted by marinakatombI just like to add to this (and hope it doesn't sound like an advert) but for real-time and blitz chess this site is superb, and they have really cracked down on cheats, I am not sure how they have done this but it must have something to do with the client software that you use as the frontend to play it.
