So what did you do to clear the problem? Typing it and coming out IT sounds like some kind of capitalization rule or a rule about proper nouns, contractions thereof, like IT=Information Technology.
So it sounds like a rule based problem.
I have open word at home but have used MS forever and haven't gotten into it much. It works fine I am told and is even superior in some respects to MS word.
