OTB over the board
How many people play a lot of over the board chess
instead of just on line chess? I don’t get to play much
outside of here, but once in a while I do.

How many people own a good chess set and board?

Are the pieces wood or plastic? What size is the King?

I own several, my favourite being 1600 cm2 (40*40) in marble that I bought in Turkey. The king is about 7 cm tall, not really sure.

I believe I play much stronger in real life than I do here too.
[thankfully] I know I don't spend near the time thinking about
what I should do than I do when I play over the board, unless
I'm using a chess clock for speed games, than time I spend is
about the same. 🙁
I have a nice wooden set, about a 3.5 inch King, but I hardly
ever get to use it.

*Wonders how long it's gonna be before someone makes the 'my wood king is _ inches long joke*

I used to have a nice crystal chess set, but thats long gone.

Saw a chess set at a market that had a nice fantasy theme, was around R3,500 which is around $500 or 350pounds anyway too much for me...

I play a lot of online chess (on here everyday) so I think I play better here than OTB

I normally use a clock when I play otb, and more times than not
when I play it is a G5 fast game. When I don't use a clock I seem
to get lost in the game and enjoy it a little more I think.

I've talked to a number of players who feel they are much stronger otb than here . I'd have to put myself into that catagory as well .

As to chess sets , I made one in bronze , the king's about 3.5 inches tall . I have another bronze one that isn't my design , just molded from a commercial set that I play with occasionally (I don't care if it gets dinged up ) , and oh yeah , last year I got one for my Bday that was one of those carved out of cheap stone in India , but I really like it .

I am much better OTB than on this site. I also have a very nice maple and pine board with weighted ash hand carved pieces which I bought whilst on holiday in Dorset. The king is about 2.5 inches high.

I have couple sets at home. Largest one, with 3 inch king, is on the living room table and other ones are just really cheap sets with small magnetic pieces (useful when travelling).

And I play better OTB than via internet
