Where is the most beautiful and inspiring place you have ever visited? To me the Grand Canyon in Arizona is tied with the Redwood Forest in Northern California. The canyon really messes with your brain in trying to grasp the size of this place for about a couple hours.
The Redwoods and the size and height of those trees is mind boggling. 300 ft +. It is actually hard to ...[text shortened]... f you ever do find one that has fallen and walk it's length, you now know how unbelievable they are.
@uzless saidGood question... I'd say whatever you'd like. Maybe both ways?

@Bish saidAw, but have you been to Lough Neagh? 😉
Lake Superior - the largest freshwater lake in the world (surface area)
The big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Large bodies of water are incredible. Think everyone should take a boat trip at least once in their lives completely surrounded by water, imagine it's a similar feeling to being at the grand Canyon.
@A-Unique-Nickname saidi grew up on the coast of the gulf of rookie

padre island national seashore, rookie's beach
lots of fishing excursions
some minor motion sickness that passed as i got more experience
then came that dang ole vietnam doohickey thingie
i joined the navy to avoid the jungle, killing a human being, and a body bag
six months later the captain of the light cruiser stopped the big ole ship in the middle of the north atlantic, told everybody aboard that the water was two miles deep, and to go jump in
he dramatically posted two marine snipers in the crows nest for shark watch
the water was so clear i could easily see under the ship and everything
i recommend this sort of experience
@A-Unique-Nickname saiduh, kinda hard to take a boat trip if you aren't surrounded by water....

@galveston75 saidthat's awesome. My father was at Pearl when it was bombed too.
Yes there is a huge amount to see here. But I'd love to travel to Europe and Africa... And I did live in Hawaii for a short time. Dad was in the Navy at Pearl Harbor, but, I have no memory of it as I was only 2 years old. Darn it..Lol.
USS San Francisco, a heavy cruiser. he lived.
@Earl-of-Trumps saidThat’s a lifelong story right there.

My father was a submariner in the RN for 11 years post war but still had some stories.
One of his subs (the old diesel type) is a museum in dry dock in Southampton and we (the family) got to take him on a visit a few years before he passed away which was quite something. But the real kicker was when we were exiting at the rear of the sub and one of the veteran volunteers recognised him and named him as his CPO. Dad didn’t recognise him but was really moved.
@uzless saidWithout seeing any land?

@moonbus saidIt is so quiet out there that the silence roars in your ears.
@galveston75
Can't argue against the great stands of redwoods in No. California; truly astonishing. But for my money, the great southwest desert, especially at night, is the most awe inspiring place on Earth.
@Suzianne saidYes, it is quite eerie for the first couple of nights being out in the desert. Whereas, living in a big city, there is a constant background din of tires on pavement and machinery. One of my nights in the desert was interrupted by something which galloped through the campsite, on hooves, perhaps a wild horse.
