Another beautiful and interesting place, in a smaller setting, is a place I finally had the chance to see this last summer, is Palo Duro Canyon in north Texas. It's not a Grand Canyon but yet it is the second largest canyon in the country. And within this park and Caprock Canyon is a herd of pure blooded buffalo. I know there are a few other herds still left in such places like Yellow Stone, but these are worth seeing too.

@rookie54 Cool, I grew up at Galveston. And I've been deep sea fishing a few times on the Party boats that go out usually 50+ miles or farther to one of the oil rigs.
Jeez that's been over 40 years ago!!!! I'm getting old...Lol.
Anyway yes getting out where you see no land, it is an awesome thing but also makes one feel really small. And yes the water when it is clear is unbelievable.
So do you still live down there? In June we are meeting my brother in law and some other friends from Colorado Springs down on South Padre for a few days. They will pretty much be sitting around doing nothing but digging drinks out of their coolers, but I'm hoping to get a line or two wet and see what I can catch.

@Earl-of-Trumps said
that's awesome. My father was at Pearl when it was bombed too.
USS San Francisco, a heavy cruiser. he lived.
Wow. I bet he's got some stories!!!! My dad was in the Korean War and was on a smaller ship but don't know the type. He actually went to submarine school up on the east coast but couldn't qualify because of an inner ear problem he had since birth. So.....I'm glad he didn't pass the test. He's 91 now....

I think I would go for Plitvicka matinal Park in Croatia (I haven't travelled much intercontinential, and if on business, so Europs is what I have seen most.)

@Ponderable
Thanks. I'll have to look that one up.

A couple other places I've been and they rank way up there is Crater Lake and Mt St Helens.
Both are volcanoes of course but lots of years difference between them. Crater Lake is cool because you can drive around the complete top and there are hundreds of look out stops.
Then with Mt St Helens you are not allowed within a few miles, so there is no driving to the top and there probably never will. I just heard today that the old girl is rumbling again. It does that often but sometimes some are more serious then others.
But the observation building is incredible with it's views and all the information in the building of the actual blast. You can easily spend a couple days there in awe.....

Thta thread shouldn't die, it has such a positive emanation.

A very nice place to visit is Crete. I liked to hike there. You can have mountain, dry zoe, wet zone and ocean in one tour.
