Agreed though Deus Ex is excellent.......
HL and HL2 obviously are also awesome.... Although lack that RPG element of Deus Ex

Deus Ex rocks, as do the other games mentioned here.
I'd recommend Bioshock. It's by the same group as did System Shock 2 and is an awesome game. Some of the same mechanisms as Deus Ex and System Shock 2 (limited upgrade slots, lots of candidates) but with amazing graphics/art/dialog.
I played the Xbox version, but it's available for the PC.

Same thing with Supreme Commander....... (If you haven't played Total annihilation you should....)
