I have repetitively had WinFixer.AYM appear as a threat for 5 days now.

C: System Volume Information/_restore{4B9BF........}\RP752\119.dll

I did a system restore last week.

AVG picks it up and puts it in the vault, but is obviously not healing it as it keeps returning. Any body help pls?

Oh and I've also loaded pctools and other crap that says it will rid of it on google, to no avail 🙁

I can't get access to the C: System Volume Information file.

Thnx.

I would use Malwarebytes (free) first. Then see how it goes.

As SS hints - you should use Firefox - then the problem would probably never arise.

Then:
make a new system restore point and run disk cleanup.
go in "other options" and delete all but last restore point.

use linux. www.distrowatch.com. puppy linux is nice for single user and live CD boots, linux mint is nice for multiuser and permanent hard drive installs.

and/or:

buy a new internal drive, install it, make partitions big enough for your old windows partition and some new linux partitions, clone the windows partition from your old drive to your new drive with the tools provided with the new drive, disconnect your old drive, test that your new drive boots to windows, install puppy linux (for admin purposes) on one of the linux partitions and GRUB boot manager on the MBR, install a permanent large flavor of linux you like on one of the other partitions. save the old drive in case your new one crashes sometime. see if you can scrub your new XP partition of viruses with F-prot or Clam AV or whatever linux AV programs you have while you are booted to linux.
