if your on a LAN, ourTunes is useful...
I use WinMX for hard to find (almost obscure) stuff. I can't say it's the best. What's the better alternative?

Well, I can only imagine you've had no cause to.

As I've said before, WinMX doesn't work that well for all setups. For instance, it can't make a "primary connection" through my firewall.

Generally speaking, you won't find truly obscure stuff with P2P clients. A much better alternative is to find a "specialist" site you can download Torrent files from...

That depends. A lot of the audio and video I go after are from sites which specialize in non-copyrighted material.

Don't underestimate its popularity. After all, I (and many others) have the opportunity to collect material you can't get over the counter. It's not commercially available. You'd be surprised just how much rare stuff is out there.

And these sites shouldn't have to worry about being shut down or harrassed. Which means they'll probably still be where you'd expect them to be next time you need them.

i'm not saying it's not popular, meerly that it's not as popular. people like getting something for nothing, and when it comes to music/software, most don't care if it's illegal or not.

Nor do I.

If you have a point, please make it soon and put us all out of our misery.

my point was that most people use peer to peer sharing for illegal purposes. if you download a song off WinMX, then it is, generally, illegal. that is my point.

my other point has a long shaft at the end of it. most people would call the shaft and the point combined a "spear". i call it betsy.

I've used all the above. eDonkey is great, but you'll find faster downloads with Bittorrent. Takes filesharing to a whole new level. bittorrent.com
