People are no better in groups (in families, in friendship, in romance, in marriage, in business, in government, in country clubs, in fraternal
orders, in churches, secret societies or in any internet chess forum or club or clan) than they already are as mature/responsible individuals.

Think Habitat for Humanity/Boy Scouts/local church/etc. I don't have the money, time, or physical resources to accomplish by myself what those groups can do with me as a member. And the group adds to and builds me up at the same time. It is a conceit to think I am not better by working with the Scouts or that my church as a group offers nothing for my improvement. Groups work and they can help you be better too.

nobody would deny the potential benefit of group affliations. Person's awareness, growth and value may well become enhanced over time.

Originally posted by Grampy BobbyOf course. And like any other groups, they can be both positive and negative, although the ones you mention from cliques onwards seem to refer to certain types of groups / group dynamics that have a rather negative connotation.
Clubs and clans and cliques and mutual admiration societies and gregarious likeminded groupies = groups?
