is a very difficult field to kick in, even for the home team. It's been
notorious for misses since its construction.
One was a 42-yarder, the other was around the same; neither of them
are piece of cake kicks, as any kicker will tell you; one hit the crossbeam,
the other was just wide. I feel sorry for him.
Steelers' Reed, with a 33-yarder was just barely inside the top of the post.
It would have been tragic over here in Pittsburgh had he missed that, given
the Steelers' historic 'bad luck' with kickers (some season ago, their place
kicker missed some 4 or 5 in a single game; he's no longer there -- but he
missed a field goal at Heinz Field this year on his new team, as I recall).
It was a nail-biter to the end. Neither team played consistently well, both
did well in spots (Jets defense was particularly good with lots of strong
defensive plays, most notably the 80+ yard interception TD). This was Big
Ben's first taste of the 'extra-season play.' It is no small deal to still your
nerves as a young 20-something rookie trying to lead your team to the
Super Bowl.
Go Steelers!
