I've just had a look at the player tables and 17 !! people are currently ranked 2000 or above (quite a development if you ask me, when I joined not too long ago there were 12 people over 2000) ...
Am quite intriqued when a top player needs to have 2000 or above to reach the top 20??
Any suggestions ???
I personally would give it another month at the max

One way to minimise this effect would be to make pts "conserved" for new provisional players - i.e. all pts gained by a new player would have to be lost by their opponents.
when i started there were only 5 above 2000.

Originally posted by marinakatombyeah, they do, but I think the point that was being made was that every new player brings 1200 new points to the site. Any they lose before they leave remain in the pool.

I think the suggestion was that the 1200 points provisional player start with could be 'imaginary', and that the would have to earn their real points by defeating players. This would mean that the number of points in the 'pool' would remain constant. Unfortunatly this wouldn't account for site expansion with more people joining; we'd get the reverse effect of ratings lowering as people joined, with any points they gained before leaving being lost from the pool. It would also mean that players couldn't gain anything from playing a provisional player but could still lose points, so no one would want to play these games.
The obviuous solution is that no one should be allowed to leave until their rating had fallen/risen to exactly 1200 points 😛

Ane let me tell you, David and I are getting fed up with all the competition. I'm watching you, Quirine... 😉
I made a terrible blunder against Redmike, so I will soon lose more than 20 points.
When I joined the number 1 here had something in the range of 1600-1700...

which is depressing - the top of the board is moving away from me faster than I am moving towards it, like I'm rowing against the tide. Anyone got a spare outboard??
