Yes. In fact, it may be the only way to avoid to be timed out when you come back.

Edit: Also, people often put up their vacation flag when they don't know how much internet access they will have or when they know they won't be able to handle all their games. Allowing them to still make some moves means that fewer opponents will have to wait until they are fully back.

Also, the flag is set to UK time. A person may be back but the date hasn't changed in the UK yet. I had my flag up when I had computer problems. When I had computer access once again, I resumed play although my flag would remain showing until it was the next day in the UK.

What i hate is, setting a challenge with someone rated 1350, then having them timeout loads of games and me getting beaten by a 1000 rated player 😛

The other side to is it is there are internet cafes where people can make a few moves if they are away.I'd guess that they don't know the full facilities until they reach where they are going to.
