I receive personal messages from many users of this site, asking me advice for their personal, professional, and spiritual problems. Sometimes I guide them through their confusion so they find the answers themselves, sometimes I provide them with the answer itself.

I quite manage all the time, yet recently I received a p.m. from a very well known and respect user of this community (whose name I keep for myself for confidentiality reasons), saying:

Hi S. How is going, man? Hope all is rock solid with ya.

So, listen, I've been thinking. You know I've been here like for 4 years, and I have never suffered any problem. Hey, I enjoy this quite much, man! However, I've been feeling guilty, man, because, well, you know, I won a couple of tournaments here and there, I lead a clan, I post in the chess forum, and this and that. Cool up til here, you know. But the reality, man, is that... crap, how can I say it? Well, to be honest: I don't know how to play chess! Crap, please keep this for yourself. But I really don't have a single clue how to play it!

You see, when I am in a match, the reality is that I move and click the mouse like crazy, just like you do with a video game console at home when playing box or karate games. So, that's how I do it, and I am even asked about openings and this and that... and my clan is chess strategy related! Should I come forward about this? Man, it's torturing me!

Please help, man! Regards, ____.

I am pondering how to approach this problem, but I thought I could share it with you all, fishing for some worthy opinions.

Only serious posts, please.

Thanks,
-S-

I would answer that a player who does not know how to play the game properly will never suffer knowing he is losing.

Don't push your luck, Stevie, that I still keep in my inbox your PM to me sharing that erectile dysfunction thing.

So, is there an opinion from a user with an IQ above 25?

Should it not be 25, then eating by yourself without the need of a nurse also qualifies you to post here. Thanks.

Probe privately, Seitse. Help the fragmented fellow get down to the essence of his problem, that which makes the problem a problem.

Key to doing it is through adroit questioning. The personal message you received merely describes symptoms. Help him to focus.

And does his rating reflect his method of play? And which tournys did he win, rating less than 500? Of course you can be a great clan leader without any great chess skills.

Suggest the usual books: Chernev's Logical Chess and several by Seirawan. Perhaps a few practice games?

25 on the metric scale?

What is this fixation for the word _man_? Sounds like someone high on something other than heterohormones. Get a grip, and on yourself.

Go preach to your local pub, man. Your opinion is not requested nor aprecciated her. Understood, man? Now go fetch a beef jerky, Larry.
