My opponent (who I won't name lest THAT is poor sportsmanship!) claimed a win on time out even though I had sent a note to each opponenet, set my vacation flag, AND had timebank remaining. Is that less than ideal behaviour?
If you had timebank remaining you would not have been timed out.
Whilst frustrating that is what you agreed when taking the game.
I got caught out on Christmas Day, a few 1 day timeouts were considered seasonal gifts by some of my opponents. In our household you are lucky if you are allowed to watch tv on Christmas Day, nevermind do something as unsocialable as play online chess.
C'est la vie

I definitely did have timeebank left over (see game ID 871028). I calculated based on my departure date and return date that NONE of my games could or would time out based on timebank. The "result" indicates "move timeout" (not time bank). War is war but I still think this sucks.

The poor sportsmanship in my view is in complaining about something that an opponent is allowed to do.
Whilst is may not be nice to be timed out when you have asked not to be because you will be unavailable, the fact remains that it is at your opponents discretion whether they do time you out or not.
The vacation sign is, in my opinion, a waste of time as it is too easily abused. It is annoying to see people putting up vacations signs saying they are unavailable for say 7 days, only to see them moving every single day of their "vacation".
It would appear that your calculations were incorrect.
It's a loss, it cost you a few points, move on, win again and regain the points.

Now in terms of my calculations being incorrect, I included the timebank, and calculated that even if all my opponenets moved the day I left (which BTW was for a REAL vacation, not a 'I don't want to move right now' vacation) I would have timebank to cover. That was true. However, evidentally one can lose by missing a move timeout even when t/bank remains ...
Originally posted by clive59No you can't. For someone to claim a win you have to have run out of timeout and timebank. That is certain.

You clearly are not infallible as your inability to paste the correct game id shows (or use the link to a game feature) shows. Perhaps you made a mistake in your calculations.
