Jason...I get the same way...take a break...go camping...anything.
Forget about chess for a bit....then when you come back with a fresh
mind all will be ok. And once again you will enjoy it.
Being involved in this passion is alot better than alot of others I can
think of...but everyone needs to take a step back from it every now
and then.

certainly doing a good job anyway - always helpful and willig to give a
hand which is what a community web site like this should be ! That is
what I have found that a lot of the good players are more than happy
to give some advice - you, wwarrior, gilbert etc.
It is encouraging to know that people once they get to the top - dont
become arrogant like someone who was 31 but has been away for a
while.... probably being hunted by the CIA in the fight against
terrorism.
Couldn't have said it better myself. No matter how much you love
something, everyone needs a break sometimes. There's a whole
world out there! And you WILL have a new perspective after a break.
I find the same to be true when it comes to practicing my guitar
playing. I'll go for a while playing at every opportunity, and end up
frustrated at my lack of progress. Then I take a week off, and when I
come back to it, my picking is more fluid, the right notes seem to
come more naturally, and, most importantly, I find that I'm having
more FUN! So, take a break. If you're like most of us, "retiring"
wouldn't last long!

Yes, Jason. Don't start new games right now, and play the ongoing
ones as if they were your last. Gradually, when the number will be
decreasing, the need to have new games will come automatically.
You will not escape your destiny, lol.
Don't go away. Too many, like me, would miss you very much.
Julia.
I thank you all for the support. I must have been out of my mind to
think about leaving the best site in the whole wide world LOL. TONY
I need my revenge but lets wait until I get my rating a little higher. I
look at the whole scenario this way. I am on the bottom feeder list
now but that is ok because poepl will challenge me to play and I may
beat them WOO HOO thatll get me points. I fiuger they will think
that I am not as good as I have the potential to be and now IM
READY to win lets play BALL er I mean CHESS or in missleads
game "tennis"

Hey! Don't you dare.
EVERYONE gets burned out from time to time. It's ok to take some
time away from chess. Do something else of interest for a while
completely away from chess. Then come back to it.
You might be stuck at a level where chess is extremely frustrating,
and everyone seems to be beating up on you. If this is the case, my
best advice would be to suspend your active play (if possible) and do
some serious study of openings you like, the middle game (Silman's
books are good for this). Endgame play is very important too, and
you need vision to get favorable positions when you end up there.
So, study at least an "Essential Endings" type book as well. Silman's
book is a good choice but there are many good books out there.
Do this with play suspended or do something else entirely so you can
renew your appreciation and for the game. Chess is a hard game to
play well, so remember, the greatest satisfaction you will ever get out
of life are those things you do during your life that are difficult. If you
truly try to work to be a better player, you will be rewarded for those
efforts!
I've had great games and terrible games, easy wins and difficult wins,
and I've always got the most satisfaction out of the games I had to
work my tail off to win. Did I always win those games? No, but always
walked away with a greater understanding of my strengths and
weaknesses as a player from games I fought hard to win and failed --
I received valuable lessons from those loses!
Don't quit! Simply stop active play for a while. Do something else for
a while or study chess to improve your understanding so you can play
better in future games. When you feel rested come back to active
play again.
