I like to boil onions in beer and top it off with them.

A totally acceptable method as well. I will do that if massive amount of brats are required; because I will keep then warm in the beer/onion concoction. To many of my friends have gone vegan so cookouts are changing around here. I make thirty or so brats then feed'em to the kids all week.
