For the music competition we downloaded firefox then Gspace. There have been several updates to my firefox and to Gspace after I downloaded the package. The last one, a fairly large one, 7 megs, for firefox, keeps giving error message, 'one or more files cannot be downloaded, something like that, then it goes in this cycle of downloads and error message and I cannot open firefox now, good thing I have IE so at least I can get through to you guys. Any ideas?
Only thing I can think of is to uninstall and start over. Anything more subtle than that?
The post that was quoted here has been removedI am, but I noticed something wierd, in the User accounts, we have 5 or so accounts for various family members, but there is one listed I never saw before that said it was password protected but it doesn't come up in the log in screen, everyone else does. It says it's
ASP.NET Machine A... exactly like that, no idea how to get into it either, since it does not appear on the login screen. Ever hear of this kind of thing before? How can you hide something like that from the login screen and how can I actually login to it to find out what it is?
If it belongs to one of our kids who is off on their own, I don't want to destroy some letters or homework or something but if its a stranger or hacker, I want to know about it. Weird.
Originally posted by sonhouseI tried uninstall and reinstall and get the same crap on this login. However, I logged in on another family member login and it's working fine there.
Hey thanks, at least it is not something really bizarre. It's bad enough coming from MS but at least it's not a hacker! So what about firefox? I am admin on this account. Should I just uninstall and try again?
What makes the difference there? I have admin in both accounts, that doesn't seem to be it. I can't run FF on my own account but can here. On my own account, it goes into that crazy cycle of download, error with download forever. But it does not do that on my wife's account, so was able to load both FF and Gspace and listen to tracks. Shyte, don't know what's going on.
Originally posted by sonhouseWell the problem seemed to be associated with my security levels. I went to the login I could fully engage FF in and went to it's security setting and found one that was one notch lower than my own account.

So I went to my account and lowered it one notch and the update finished with no apparent problem. So it looks ok now. I can get gspace and everything. Don.
I have installed FF three times and have had to uninstall it three times . My computer slows down. Have constant problems. I get PC Magazine and they constantly praise FF and the magazine has great advise, but this one is a loser. I only use my computer for chess. I have nearly 70% unused space available.I use Windows XP 2. FF is not for all of us.

I would try again if I were you. 🙂
Originally posted by Dr StrangeloveI am getting to like FF better, I like the way it autofills my PW when I go to Myspace for instance, and I like the tools like Gspace. That is a nice feature, it can allow a way to have a common place for two musicians to exchange files to make a project for instance.

Originally posted by Evil Pawn 666There are known issues with FF and bad Java script on sites. You could try a pre-2.0 version of FF which should be fine. Or use some of the FF add-ons - NoScript which blocks various scripts being executed (a very good thing). Possibly also FlashBlock which stops those irritating flash animations and ads. Both can be selectively turned on and off. Use Windows Task Manager minimised to view CPU usage and see which activities/sites are eating CPU usage.

I suspect, though, that your first port of call is to run a virus check and perhaps more important, adware/malware/trojan checks. Ad Aware is good, as is AVG Anti Spyware. Run both.
I've just been through the same problem and found a host of crapware - all of which were IE related which were causing most problems and a devil to get rid of.
