I don't know, making this post pretty much useless, but for solidarity I have trouble downloading BBC podcasts from outside the UK, other than Radios 4 and 5. You're not alone.

A proxy server hides your IP address and makes the site think you are from another country. I use http://www.hidemyass.com/proxy/ to watch videos only available to US.

I searched for UK based proxies and here is a list -
http://www.proxy4free.com/list/webproxy_country3.html

Maybe try one of those?

I highly recommend the following add on for Firefox
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2464

Just installed it myself today from reading this thread, much more convenient for using all those proxy servers. You can input the IP addresses of the proxy, the port code, and make sure it only applies for certain websites; I didn't want to have to turn it off everytime I wanted to access a certain site, say the UK BBC iplayer because of an American IP address.

From this I got Pandora.com to work from the UK.

I subscribe to a lot of BBC podcasts using Google Reader, the links are sent to me etc You probably know how it works. Then I just right click, save target and provided they are available over here in Kazakhstan, they save to my USB.
