Has anyone else been hit by a recent bug in automatic updates to McAfee antivirus software? My desktop computer is denied access to the net because of an update McAfee installed last week. The glitch caused this problem, apparently, to computers using Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. I'm here courtesy of my iPad. They. Publish a fix but I can't get it to work. Anyone see got this problem?

McAf just like Norton and other programs that become popular become complacent and fail to keep themselves streamlined. They live off the suckers still using them. I think the same has happened with Security Esentials. I'll give AVG a try Monday.

I use Norton Security Suite because my ISP offers it for free. I haven't had any problems with it so far.

I second this recommendation. McAfee has given me more trouble than it's worth. For professional use I'd still recommend Sophos, but that's a bit pricy for personal use - AVG will do fine. Give McAfee and Norton a miss.

Panda security suite, or TrendMicro Cloud edition - depending where you are situated.
