my 5yr old daughters teacher pulled me up yesterday and asked to have a word with me. my natural reaction was to be worried as i wasnt always the most errrm......well behaved student.....anyway.
the teacher quietly leans in and says 'berry has had a brilliant year and im going to award her my star pupil of the year, dont tell her its going to be a suprise for her in tomorrows assembly'. well i battled back the tears of joy like a post-apocalyptic tear warrior, i like to think at that moment with the other mothers and father watching i kept it together and was the embodiment of machoness.
the next day as she was asked up infront of the whole school and given her award and i saw her face light up, the years of repressed manly feelings burst like paper mache dam.
anyway..the main point is, im super proud. if id know kids could make you this happy i would of banged a few out years ago.

Cool beans! My boy will be 5 in September... missed the school date age limit by about 3 days.

I have no doubt I will shed many a tear when it comes to it. I worry about being too prideful, I know it can be a bad influence, but I think I can allow myself a few instances of inner beam.

Relate directly to your joy. My own son won his first chess tournament

while still in 1st grade, going up against 4th-6th graders in the finals.

sounds like you are doing a good job of parenting. Kudos to you and to her.

Ha! I know what you mean.

My 2yo is counting to ten (badly), identifying colours (more wrong than right) and making animal sounds.
I feel immensely proud when I teach her something or she comes home with a bunch of new words she learnt.

She runs every where and I've gone for little jogs around the block with her.

It's just great and I'm surprised by how much joy it gives me to see them develop.

Lovelly 🙂
How magnificent having children is, is our generations best kept secret.
May you have many, many more proud moments like that.
I watched our second oldest on Thursday singing on stage, so proud of her so happy up there singing her heart out. I was standing up at the back and I couldn't stop smilling at her. Wonder how I got so lucky.
