I rant plenty about people becoming Pawn Stars-- so, here's a
challenge. If Russ or Chris e-mails me one month from today
(tenebr8@hotmail.com) and they have received at least 30 new Pawn
Star payments, I will send them a check for the amount that it costs to
become a Pawn Star, even though I already have my star. And I
encourage anyone else who has the dough to do the same-- let's
show these guys how much we appreciate the site, and help them
cover the costs of the new server, etc. I know that there are people
here who are not in the best of financial situations-- believe me, I've
been there. But I dare say that the majority of us can afford the
SMALL cost of that star. Let's go, folks. We've all been to the other
chess sites, and we're here because none of the others compare.
Show your gratitude. This is our home-- let's help pay for its upkeep.

This is a funny deal...talked John (vaknso) who is one of the main
people on the site and he said he is just fine with his gold star...but I
think he deserves something different...he has held his position
(couple of quick slips but nothing major) for a LONG time. Not only
that but he has also supported the site so much that I named
him "The Ambassador" of RHP...and so far all has agreed with me.
His family has all joined and become major players here as well as
huge supporters and a TON of help to me when I have started these
tourneys (I also have to thank sintubin, lioness, misslead,!
~TONY~!,Danforth,T1000, and alot of thanks out to maggoteer!!)
I will definetly send in another subscription and will continue to do so
every year...why? Because of what we have here. This is the BEST
place to play chess on the net...and trust me guys I have played on
all of them. I have watched some come and go...I have seen the
good and the bad..and hell even the ugly (won't mention any names
on that site..hehehe)...and this is far superior to anything. The only
thing that even comes close is ICC and that is just due to the fact that
GM's play there (and Bobby from what I here) but of course it is very
expensive compared to this.
As for a different color star I say yes...I hope John will agree with me.

Russ and Chris,
I'm still in favor of going to an annual membership fee, as outlined in
some of my much earlier posts on the subject.
Three basic levels of membership, as follows:
20.00 per year, with unlimited games
10.00 per year, with a limit of 20 games in progress at one time.
FREE indefinitely, but with a limit of 3 games in progress at one time.
Current pawn stars granted a grace period, then they would need to
pay an annual membership fee, same as everyone else. They could
retain the pawn star icon as a symbol of their early support...
Fees and game limits shown above are just an example, and it would
be up to you to decide what figures would best work here.
Game limits would need to be strictly enforced with no loopholes or
exceptions. Current games in progress could be allowed to be played
out, but anyone who is over their game limit based on level of
membership would not be allowed to start any new games until they
are within or below their limit.
You could restrict participation in tournaments to paying members only
as well.
I thought this plan was good before, and I still think it would provide
you with a more stable and reliable annual income to support the site.
If it brings in too much money, you could use any excess to provide
some tournament prizes, or even give yourselves some compensation
for your much appreciated efforts!
Just my thoughts, again
regards, Marc
I agree with all that Marc said except maybe about letting pawn stars
keep their original star after the grace period ends. As someone else
mentioned it would create a "haves" and "have nots" atmosphere, not
good for a community like this.
I think the coloured stars showing annual membership are better. I
suggest a silver star for $10 members (with 20-game limits), a gold
star (different to the one now) for $25 members with 50-game limits,
and a flaming star for $50 members (with unlimited games and a
place in a Red Hot Pawn Hall of Flame).
If the pay system were set up at the beginning of January 2003 then
pawn stars would go out in January 2004. Any pawn star who hadn't
paid a year's subscription by then would go back to being a normal
player, with a three-game limit and no tournament rights, just like
other non-paying members. I don't think there would be many pawn
stars who would not pay the yearly subscription.
A lot of this has been said before. Basically agreeing with it.
