The silver and gold stars make sense, but I think flaming stars and 'Hall of Flame' treatment,
if they are introduced, should be awarded on an individual basis to people deemed to have
made an outstanding contribution to RHP (not necessarily purely financial) *by their own
initiative*.

Anyone who is prepared to give $50 a year would probably do so even without this status
boost; that is, unless they are so addicted to chess that they need to play more than 50
games, even against fairly active opponents, to avoid cold turkey (in which case they should
probably think carefully about all the other things they could be doing besides playing chess!)

Russ, I like my gold star. How much to make it Twinkle?

Vaksno,

We should be polishing one up for you anyway in honour of your 50,000th move...

Chris,
My star shines all the time. I'm honored to play the folks here at
Red Hot Pawn. I've seen the site go thru some sad moments but your
works and dedication has brought it to where it is today. Thanks.

I love the idea of color upgrades! How much would it cost me to get a
flaming star!? That would be cool...

I have to admit, though-- when mwmiller makes his case for an
annual membership fee, he has some SOLID logic. I'm obviously
going to leave it to Russ and Chris to make that call, but I wouldn't
complain if it happened-- I would LOVE to see these guys actually get
some monetary compensation for their efforts.

I would like a spidey-star, one that flashes and emits a keening wail
when my king is in danger. How much would that run me?

I vote for a brilliant blue for the upgraded star. Red is cold by star standards :-P

Just run towards it very very fast; won't it turn blue then?

I'm reading this - so I'll make sure Chris gets to see it.

Would anyone be interested in a 'star' upgrade for multiple donations,
possibly another colour/color??

I think this could be fun. [And then tenebr8's posts would stand out
all the more in the forums 🙂 ]

I also will give a pawnstart to someone who doesn't have the money
to pay for it.

I came to pay for my first pawn star some weeks ago, so I let pas this
one. Although I have the intention to pay once a year, so next year in
the summer I'll pay for a new pawnstar (and so each year). If we al do
that (and maybe some of you are doing that already) I think a great
deal of the financial problems should be solved. So my friends, next
summer don't hesitated to remind me my promese. joost

Excellent idea! I hope that many people decide to "renew" their star
once a year-- let's face it, Russ and Chris could easily charge an
annual fee, but they choose not to. So, anyone who can afford it
should do what they can.

Russ/Chris-- hope you're watching these posts pile up!

We certainly are watching the posts! And it's incredible. For
something that started as a small project to learn PHP and to try to
write a (very) simple correspondence chess site - it's amazing to see
the community that has built up. And, believe me, we are stunned by
the level of support that is being shown for the site!

I have been working for the last few hours to speed up the site on the
existing server - even though a new server should be in place within
the coming week. You may or may not notice the difference in the
next few days, but you certainly should once the new server is
configured!
