For those of us who are pretty happy and content with the way our lives are going, who thinks about, or has done something about, puttting something back into the community, whether that is construed as the local neighbourhood or the whole world? What have you done, or what have you contemplated doing? Examples of what I am thinking of are: supporting an under-nourished child in a developing country (or your own!), community volunteer work, donating to charities etc.

and why not? keeping it quiet just creates the impression that no-one is doing anything, whereas telling people what you are doing (not for the purpose of self-aggrandizment) might inspire others to follow suit.

ok, i have no reason to doubt that, and wasn't trying to cast doubt on it. also, if you say it is so, i'm prepared to take your word for it. but since we're essentially anonymous here, would it do any harm to say what we're doing? i have to admit that part of my reason for asking is that i feel i'm not doing enough and am casting about for ideas as to how best to deploy the resources i have at my disposal. but if people are uncomfortable, even in their relative anomnity, talking about it, i understand. i do think that giving without seeking recognition is commendable.
