just came across this article about canned hunts and wondered what the position of hunters (or otherwise) on this site are regarding it.

I know must hunters look down on canned hunting.
Hunting as a 'sport' is all about finding your prey and then killing it; using all your hunting skills to outwit the prey.

I don't really hunt (I've tried, but I'm a bad shot), but shooting a canned animal would be no fun.
These guys have too much money and all they're after is outfitting their living rooms with trophies.

I have moved out to the country where there is a culture and tradition of hunting. I have talked to some of them and I have also recently looked at some hunting programs on tv. What has most suprised me is their ability to be patient and discerning. Many times they let one get away or ignore it because it is not "the right one." I also get the feeling that the stalking and the commoraderie are the "journey" part of the destination. Kirk

As a Hunter and a Christian I must agree that Canned Hunts or using dogs to "tree" a bear and then shooting are not for me. I love to Bowhunt and some of my most memorable hunts have been stalking on the ground to within 10 feet of deer and then just watching them feed on grass and hang out without knowing you are there. It's the challenge of meeting them on their terms and giving them the advantage by not using technology to make it easy for me.

We call them game farms. I got roped into doing this once for my brother in laws bachlor party. They had to kick most of the pheasants up so you could shoot them. I guess they have a sporting chance. I did'nt get any cause I use a shot gun that has a 42" barrel and is lousy for this type of hunting. The birds I did'nt get flew over the fence. once the bird flew over the fence they were free. I guess you could say that I freed 3 pheasants. Can I get into the club now.😉
I would never do this kind of hunting again because it seems like "rich bored folk hunting" and there is no thrill. I have heard of people going to special game farms where the tie the animal to a tree or steak to provide some lame ass with a trophy. These types are not in minnesota that I know of.
