The Month of Fasting
The Meaning of Ramadan
Ramadan is a special month. It is a time for inner reflection, devotion to God, and self-control. To many, it is a method of spiritual self purification, but has many meanings to many people.

The third "pillar" or religious obligation of Islam, fasting has many special benefits. It is a means of learning self-control. Due to the lack of preoccupation with the satisfaction of bodily appetites during the daylight hours of fasting, a measure of ascendancy is given to one's spiritual nature, which becomes a means of coming closer to God. Ramadan is also a time of intensive worship, reading of the Qur'an, giving charity, purifying one's behavior, and doing good deeds. For Muslims Ramadan is an opportunity to gain by giving up, to prosper by going without and to grow stronger by enduring weakness.

This may seem a silly question, but if you are diabetic, do you still have to fast?

OK, all you atheists and Christian-haters: let's see some equal "bashing" given to the Muslims and their Ramadan period! In all my time here at RHP, all I've seen seen is Christian-bashing from Genesis to Revelation...let's hear what some of you think about Islam, now that the month of fasting has arrived....don't worry, I won't hold my breath...😉

Let's hope some of these "militant fanatics" who observe Ramadan can exercise "self-control" and not drive a bomb-laden car into a group of innocent people during Ramadan...if that's possible, I say declare Ramadan 24-7-365...🙂

thats a bit pathetic.

everyone has different view points but to specifically say that you should take the mic?deliberatly argue over someone elses views is a bit harsh. I am a Christian and althought i dont mind people discussing and saying other views to me and discussing them rather than saying all atheists and Christian haters...i disagree with the muslim faith, but i would be quite interested to sit with a muslim and ask questions on his beliefs and discover why we they believe it in the same way as i would shear m faith to someone else, but to say lest give a bashing to muslims as it is a time of wrship is a lttle out of order...in my oppion.

I work at a prison in Iraq right now.. and all ramadan means is a whole lot of a pain in the ass for me. I'll celebrate by eating raman noodles 🙂

i disagree with faith in a higher power in general, but i respect your right too it 🙂 any religion is fine to me. It's the extremists of any religion that ruin things.

Muslim bashing isn't as fun because the only consequence from Christian bashing is having some sad sack pray for your soul. Mock muslims and you may be without a head.
