I agree with Dave, the parties were clearly in violation of a binding contractual agreement. They should be banned. With all the obvious posts that have been said, I will suggest something that hasn’t been discussed.
The site needs to be proactive in its fight for eliminating cheaters of this nature, not just finding after they have done the damage but ...[text shortened]... s they have to play against.

I will not reveal exactly how my cheat detecting algorithm will work, as somethings are obviously best kept secret - but it should detect most cases before we get to this kind of state.
Thanks to David for pointing out the problems regarding outstanding games when a rating penalty like this is applied – I must confess, I had overlooked this. But having checked out the offenders, one had a low(ish) rating anyway, and the other has no games in progress – and appears to have ceased all site activity. All the same, if you think you have been affected since the penalty was put in place, just let me know.

The matter to which you are referring is being handled internally by the Freethinkers and will be dealt with in an appropriate fashion. It does not concern you, or anyone else outside of our clan.
hey russ in this game its probably im going to lose to mossgroup...... it is going to affect my rating horribly due to the penalty which made his rating lower

While I am not eager in the least to defend the acts of these cheaters, I should think that part of the punishment is the embarasment of public exposition of their "crime", and the fact that they might find it more difficult to find willing opponents for at least a while. So I don't think that they got off that easy.
