OK if you don't understand the explanation let's try to keep it simple:

You beat highler ranked player - you get lots of points
You beat lower ranked player you dont get as many
You lose to lower ranked player you loose lots of points
You lose to higher ranked player you dont loose as many

(Hello Juaco. Here is a translation of Rhymester's reply. I hope this
helps. ......)

Hola Juaco.

puntas.

Recuerdos, Kingprawn

Very Thanks, but how points?, what is the exactly formule?

Which takes us back to the beginning...

Players are rated using the following formula:

New Rating = Old Rating + K * (1 - Win Expectancy)

K is a constant (32 for 0-2099, 24 for 2100-2399, 16 for 2400 and
above)

The Win Expectancy is calculated using the following formula:

Win Expectancy = 1 / (10^((OpponentRating-YourRating)/400)+1)

The Win Expectancy is used in the rating calculation but is interesting
on its own. For example, the calculation below is for a rating difference
of 200. This shows that if you have a rating 200 points higher than
another player, you can expect to beat them, on average, three times
for each four games played.

Win Expectancy = 1 / (10^(-200/400)+1) = 0.76

Note: ^ = "to the power of", e.g. 2^3=8.

But basically, from my understanding you can't gain or loose more
than about 30 points in any one game.

Is this a variant of the elo system and if so how close is it? Laziness and poor maths have inhibited me from working it out.

See my post under Site Ideas. This forumla must be incorrect, as it
does not take into account the result of the game, nor does it specify
how points are allocated in the case of a draw.

I agree :-) I have also stated my disbelief in the scoring as listed in
the FAQ. If it is accurate as in the FAQ, a player wins or loses the
same amount. (up to 32 points). And, no, the formula as listed
doesn't take into account the changes that actually occur in draws.

This is the oldest thread in the forum, I´m bumping it out of boredom really.
