Can anyone explain why my rating went down 2 points on rated game that I claimed a timeout win on. I was winning the game handily, but my opponent had a beginner rating of 1200. Any help is appreciated.

It was because you were still in your provisional period. Points are calculated differently for provisional players, and a lot of times you'll lose points even if you win, because of the lower ratingof your opponent. Now that you're out of the provisional phase, you'l never lose points after winning a game.

It looks like the game you are talking about was the last game you had while a provisional player? The first 20 games you play don't follow the normal rating rules. Someone else may be able to explain the provisional period better than I can though.

thank you, although I am not overly happy about losing points on a win, at least I know there is some method to it🙂
