About a week ago I saw a post that showed the effects on rating of W/D/L
against opponents depending on their rating. Anybody got a link to it please.

Great, thanks Ponderable, saved it now. Handy to know the effect of taking on players of different rank.

Well in my opinion this would be FAQ-Material, but FAQ-amendments seems to be low on the priority list...
Be Aware that the Rating at the end of the game is relevant. Some Players have fluctuations in the 100's

Well if the gap is too great, it seems your rating goes down even if you draw. I want to improve my rating, sad maybe but it's the kinda guy I am. Competitive.

Competitive means wanting to win every game.

Surely the rating system is there so that you can get competitive games?

I really can't understand wanting to continually improve
your grade, but I appreciate that many do.

You know woth a provisional rating you can gain points when you lose a game and lose points when you win... crazy maths.

The formula is in the FAQ.
I use that ....... although the table is useful.

Note that the table changes when the rating is higher.
that variable (called the K variable I think) is in the FAQ.

Looked at the relevant FAQ.
Too early in the morning to do the maths., later maybe.

I want to improve my play. The rating is only an imperfect gauge of playing strength. Don't take the menu for the meal.
