I have a couple of suggestions for improving the site:-

1. Everyone should start unrated. Ratings are only given after a
minimum number of games have been played (10 for example). This
works very well in the Elo system and would avoid strong players being
underrated for months.

2. Anyone who has an official rating or grade, such as Elo, BCF etc.
should be encouraged to declare it, both when they join and in their
profiles. This would enable everyone to have a better idea of the
strength of their opponent, especially those who are not
yet "established".

Of course this is the correct way to do it...I agree completely but the
system we have now still works...and it was fun to work my way back
up again I must admit.

Dave,
I agree. I've blown the whistle on a few on the high rated players
here. LOL. Their style tells me the are going up the ladder quickly. I
for one dont mind playing them. Some of my best games have been
against Schliemann, Monkeyman and Islanddoc. I've learned my
strength is in the Most Active Ladder and as Ambassador.

I have always enjoyed playing you John...and yes you have been on
the lookout for the rising talent and have always given me fair warning
to get my butt prepared.

Hi! I second this suggestion. It's very recommendable. It's
implemented at ChessWorld and it works. So, why should RHP not do
this as well? It's no shame to implement good features from other
sites. If they have not done so already, I don't see any reason why
Chris & Russ should not make a tour through other established sites
and make changes at RHP for the better. For all of us. cheerio! Jan

Excellent idea.

The idea of encouraging players who play competitively to declare their over the board ratings seems like a good one to me

(with grovelling apologies for the 4 year delay in replying to this thread - I had other things on my mind)

It seems like a good idea. However; there has to be some way to verify. A number of people have shown up on the site claiming to be what they turned out not to be.

I agree. It kind of suits me really.

Oh, do you mean people pretending
to be called Dave? Maybe a photocopy of your birth certificate to Russ?
I'm talking about verification of ratings and titles.

You can be called anything that you like, Tim.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that. ... I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do. ... This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it. ... I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen. ... Dave, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.
