Sorry I seem to have upset a few people. All I was saying is that I
believe if you say hello, hi, etc etc AT THE BEGINNING OF A GAME - it
would be polite to get a response ( preferably polite). . OK - some
don't like to talk during the game - no problem. It is quite easy to tell
if your opponent is interested in conversation or not.
Although some of my posts haven't shown up on the forum yet. This
will be my last one on this subject. I know you are only talking about
the beginning of the game, but others see it all through the game.
The point only being that I do not believe that I am rude for not
talking.
I do usually say "Good Luck" at the start of my games, but not always.
I also usually have some ending comments as well, but not always.
And when I do say something and my opponent doesn't say anything
back, it doesn't bother me.
Have fun playing chess MartinS. Good Luck in all of your games.
If i notice that someone says hi i try and respond, but i don't like
talking during the game, often i get so involved with thinking about
what move to make that i forget to reply to the textual part of the
communication and only reply to the chess part.
When i would like to chat is after the game, sometimes a little post
match analysis (or even the opppurtunity to say "good game, thank
you"😉 would be nice.
just my 2p worth

Hi Paul, like I have respnded a few times. I agree, chat DURING a
game can be distracting (although there are a few members here with
whom I enjoy a bit of banter). All I was asking for/commenting on was
at least a "Hi" in response to an OPENING greeting. EG, Hi, good luck,
response , "You Too" - is that too much too ask ?
