Hi all,

I had a fairly long train journey the other day (working on-site for a few days), and took a couple of books along to read - one of them being the "Mammoth Book of the Greatest Chess Games" - or at least I think that's what it's called...

Anyway - I just wondered if anybody else feels like such a complete geek if you read a chess book in public? 😀

I know I did, but it didn't stop me reading it 🙂

I have read chess books on public transport and always feel like people are thinking "geek".
On a slightly different note, I noticed my boss had a chess book on his desk last week ("Winning with White" it was called). Thing is, today is my last day at work here and I never knew he played chess!

I used to get copies of the old Soviet magazine Shakmatny Bulletin, and would read these on the underground.
Not sure whether it was the chess or the Russian which was getting the funny looks.

I just bought two Java (programming) books, so I shall be reading those on the bus on my way home. We shall see what sort of looks I get for my geeky transgression.

I take the cover off a Penthouse and put it over my Chess Life. Problem solved.

Reminds me of the old Not the Nine O'Clock news sketch - hiding a copy of the Sun inside a porno mag in order to buy it.

I don't get strange looks on the tube for reading chess books, but I did for both 'Atheism, the case against god - George H. Smith' and '120 Days of Sodom - Marquis de Sade'
