I just finished reading the one volume edition of "Bone" during the holidays and I really enjoyed it. Anyone else have any good suggestions for my next purchase? I am not at all into the ultra-violent, japped-up, sexually deviant comic books that a lot of weirdo nerdy comic book types are into so don't bother recommending something along those lines.

Help me out, folks!

Well to me, the greatest graphic novel ever written is "The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller but it is somewhat violent....very violent in certain parts but its an extremely cohesive story.

"The Watchmen" by Alan Moore is also very very good.

Told in a graphic-novel way, but you need a monster PC for it; Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne.

Hmmm, I thought I would have far more recommendations than this.

Is your handle a mock on the asian/english pronunciation of "tolkien"? If so, then good on you!

My Old Man came to Canada alsmost 30 years ago and he still does the L/R thing, as well as replace his V's with B's (even more humoursous since my Mother named me David/Dabid). I like to joke with him when he's singing karaoke that he should sing "Wholre Rotta Ruv" by Red Zepperin. He thinks it's funny. He's not much of a role model.

Great book as most of John Irving's stuff is but is it really a graphic novel. I mean its "graphic" in parts but not really a graphic novel, right? My understanding of a graphic novel is an adult comic book. Am I incorrect?

My Uncle moved to Canada about that long ago.
Went to Toronto for work and caught train to Montreal to see him and my family.
Train took me past a lake - some lake - looked like the sea to me!!
Not a clue what lake it was but so much bigger than the ponds we have in the UK.

oh.
I thought he meant graphic as in graphic explanations of what was happening (with a sexual tint)...

silly me.

the obvious choice would be the Sandman novels. And given my avatar, the watchmen has to get a mention.

You should check out Cerebus by Dave Sims. Here is an excellent review:
