Among many things I'm rubbish at - what to wear on these sorts of occasions is probably high up there - especially given it's my first attendance at a non-family wedding (and its my best mate getting married on saturday).
Do blokes tend to wear bright shirts/ties for these occasions or darker more serious attire? (how about jackets/trousers...gray or black?) It's a church wedding btw and I haven't set foot in one of those places for a very long time .

The groom or bride can help you out, ask them. For a church wedding, may I suggest a dark suit with a subdued tie. The basic rule is: this is the day for people to notice the bride and groom, not you. 🙂
That's a really good point, hadn't thought of that! Dark makes sense. :]

wear what you would wear to a funeral and send my condolences to the poor bastard getting married.

Both good ideas, though I suspect these are what people will be wearing at my funeral if took your advice ;]

he is not the best mate of the groom, for he is not the best man.
Perhaps he should wear the Ghost Busters t-shirt after all?
Originally posted by divegeesterAye, the groom (not my best mate... though a good bloke all the same) has already chosen his best man. Might sound like a wierd set up but to put it simply, me and this woman have known each other for half our lives, she knows me better than anyone else (apart from family), we've been seen each other through some pretty crappy times, and we have a good laugh together. She is the one friend I'd be most distraught about losing.

As for suits, I think someone made a good point earlier about not stealing the show from the two getting married. Either way I'll have to fight my way though the manchester shops and pick something up pretty quick - bloody hate shopping for stuff.
