Subscribers can recommend (rec) other people's posts if they choose to.
It's meant to be a sign of respect or appreciation for what they've posted. Some sad, deluded people see it as a sort of status symbol. You can often see these people begging for Recs as they're unable to post anything anywhere near worth recommending (ie: Santa Drummer)
