The post that was quoted here has been removedummmm, Blitz game?
The fastest game that can be created is one with a daily turn, I think the server runs the day's turns like at 22:00 as a default. However, once a game is started, this turn frequency is for the whole game.
This is if we do the web version. If we all get the shareware client program and do an email version, the turns can be run whenever the Host likes.
The post that was quoted here has been removedI imagine what is boring to start off, is the Fog of War going on. If you do not have a ship at a planet, you can't see if he has one there either. A major strategy is to stick to planet hopping between planets you can reach in one turn, but this isn't always possible. When you finally do have a ship in open space at the end of a turn, any ship within 350 lys of it can see it. AND where it will be at the end of the next turn, providing it uses the same nav info next turn. To avoid surprises, look at the ships of the race you are up against in the info, to see if any have special capabilities. Look at your own, as well, so you can use their capabilities.
If you're playing the tutorial game, you could win in 20 turns. I did, and I'm very rusty. You could prolly win in fewer if you took some chances, I was very methodical in my play. It's definitely a game for the long haul, just like Shogunate, or the other AGE games.
The tutorial game almost beat me. It got off to a fast start, and the Scoreboard score looked really pathetic by turn 7. After I started fighting his ships in battles, I realized he made cheap ships with low tech level parts. My ships had all the best tech I could make, but fewer of them because of this. However, I didn't lose a single ship until I attacked his starbase. And even then it was because that ship ran out of torps.
I noticed that the tutorial game had some differences from the shareware game. For example, you could make torpedoes on board your ships, as long as you have 1 of each mineral and the price of a torpedo (depending on tech level) per torp you want to build. You can't build torps on ships in the shareware version, only at starbases. You can in the registered version though. The tutorial also had Ion Storms. This was not available in the shareware version either. I wish I could see a detailed list of what options are available in the web games versus the shareware version.
Originally posted by cadwahSince the Planets Nu game idea lost some major traction, with no one showing any interest, maybe we can get some interest going in another try.
It's been ages since we had one going. It seems that AgeGames has dropped off the internet which is a shame because Shogunate was a great game well suited to 20 or so forum dwellers.
I have had little luck finding an equivalent which is both interesting and the correct size.
Does anyone know of any alternatives? Is there enough interest to get a game go ...[text shortened]... a constant time leech as it is played in real time.
Does anyone have any good suggestions?
Here's a link to a site with a similar type game called Neptune's Pride. Diplomacy in Space, whatever you want to call it. Playing the Premium version is more expensive than Planets Nu, but I'm not sure how gimped your game would be if you played for free. Premium membership gets you access to three of their games, though, instead of one.

AGE Games is back.
Fog of War makes for a boring RHP game. No popcorn gallery or maps allowed.
And yeah, Fog of War does kinda suck, but even more so for an RHP game.
