So I'm guessing most other countries, if not all, have colloquialisms for people from other regions within that country. In England we have: -

Brummies - Birmingham
Scousers - Liverpool
Cockneys - London
Geordies - Newcastle
Mackam - Sunderland

What terms of endearment do you have for your fellow country men?

I'm not sure that we have words like that for various regions. We name people from:

Stockholm - stockholmare
Göteborg - göteborgare
Malmö - malmöiter
Skåne - skåningar
Norrland - norrlänningar
Gotland - gotlänningar

etc

Do we use other words, RWBob?

Well we have more official words for people from the various regions that is structured such as: -

Newcaledonian - Newcastle
Mancunian - Manchester
Liverpudlian - Liverpool

etc

But we also have the afore mentioned ones which are less formal and can be used perhaps in a derogatory context. Similar to the Scots calling the English Sasanachs. It can be a term of endearment or slight insult. They are usually turned into insults by following with a four letter word ending in 'T'. 🙂

Resident of Queensland - banana-bender
South Australia - crow-eater

Other states have names too, but they're not as well-established as these two.

Well, that really sounds like an insult to me, if I have the right word in mind...

A few more Aussie ones:

Queensland - cane toad
NSW - cockroach (love that one!)
Victoria - mexican (because we're "south of the border" for Qld and NSW folk)
WA - sandgroper
poor old Taswegians (Tasmanians) don't have a really exotic label, although we treat them like kiwis (New Zealanders) and make jokes about inbreeding and sheep.

Australians tend to call themselves Aussies, although our Greek and Italian immigrants labelled the locally-born population Skips after the TV series Skippy the Bush Kangaroo came out.
