I was just at a funiture outlet today and tried to rent furniture...the interest rates are astronomical, something like 52%. It has always been my understanding that interest rates that high would be considered usery. I ended up biting the bullet and just buying the funiture with cash instead...I just couldnt swallow the interest rate. Has anyone else experienced anything like this before? Is the funiture industry the only industry that does this?
Let me know your experiences.
Thanks for listening

I believe that 52% is too much, but most store card operate near 30%APR. Better to pay by a credit card that gives you cash back and makesure you pay off you card in full at the end on the month. Amex are good for card holders, but some internet banks such as Egg also offer cashback cards

I have never seen anywhere in England that rents furniture! You buy it - or go without.

To adapt a bit from Jeff Foxworthy's routine:

If you rent your furniture, you might be a redneck.

Is the word "rental" here used in the same way as we would use "lease"?

i.e. it is a "lease" purchase, and not "rental".
