Just showed this to my wife for the first time.

My god, what a powerful movie.

Quite. It's on a straight downward path - there's no relief, no gags to lighten it, no redemption. Have you read the book? I never got around to it, despite enjoying Last Exit to Brooklyn more than I thought I would.

Fantastic, huh? I own a copy, I loved it so much.

Have a look at some of Aronofsky's other films. Especially 'Pi' and 'The Fountain'. Brilliant director.

Ellen Burstyn's performance as Sara Goldfarb was incredible.

Juice by Sarah, juice by Sarah, juice by Sarah oh, Sarah's got juice, Sarah's got juice, ohhhhhhhh Sarah!

If you liked RFAD, check out 'Buffalo '66', directed by Vincent Gallo. Another favorite.

I'll see if I can find these in my town. Unfortunately here in the countryside, we mostly get blockbuster Hollywood crap.

I was very surprised to find Pan's Labyrinth here earlier in the year...


Ellen Burstyn portrayed her character perfectly. Every time I watch that movie I get tears in my eyes when she has that monologue addressing Harry.
I don't remember ever seeing her in anything else, but IMDB shows she's been going for ages in TV.

That scene got me too.

One of her most famous roles was as the mom in The Exorcist.

Sorry to revive this old thread...

Just got given this by a work colleague - My God that is a powerful film.

Watching up until "Winter" it is quite bad but bearable, but the ending where they re all broken and degraded is intense.

Quite simply, a masterpiece

I watched the Fountain twice and didn't like it, I put it down to a bad case of "trying too hard". Requiem and Pi are exceptional, and the Wrestler let me down a bit, but was still pretty good; I guess my expectations were too high.

Egoyan's stuff is powerful (to my taste).

Requiem is IMO sprinkled here and there with clichés. Liked it. Far from a fav.

I'd make the movie required viewing for schools.
