"Dos cervezas por favor". I love that sound. πŸ˜‰
And I say:

Don't automatically expect to be bored or have a lot of spare time, unless you want to. There are always things to do and friends in similar situations to be with. In addition you will do more of the things you haven't got enough time for now.

Of course, if you don't really want to leave work, then perhaps you should continue working, if that is possible. And if you have a wife/partner younger than you, then perhaps you will feel bored or busy doing things you don't appreciate.

Otherwise, I think you will like it when you get used to it. I have not yet met somebody who is unhappy in his/her new situation as retired.

How people with time, freedom, health and money could ever get bored simply because they aren't working is something I will never truly comprehend.

Crazy people.

When you are still employed, you don't have a choice - you still work. If you are retired then you have the privilege of choosing what you prefer to do - work for less money perhaps or no money, or not work at all. That's the advantage, I can't see any disadvantages. Unless you love your job, your colleagues - then it may prove more difficult.
As Stees said, it's much about economy.

Yes, it very much depends on what you consider work. I have a job that brings me little enjoyment, but the pay is alright and I don't really have any other skills that can bring in cash. Needless to say, the day I win the lottery will be the day I hand in my resignation.

In any case though, I just can't phantom people being bored. Like that fishhead guy... going back to work, because apparently he doesn't know what to do outside of work. Sounds alien to me.

Being self-employed, I could retire any time I wanted to, in one swell foop or by slowly phasing (not fading! ) out. What do I plan to do when I do retire? Cycle across France. Write books.

That's a tough question for me. I'm not sure what retirement means for me because I'm quite certain I'll keep working till I expire. There's so many things I want to do. Unfortunately I think I will die before I can get it all done.

Don't know. I'm a long, long way away from retirement and can't say what kind of person I'll be around that time.

My interests have changed over the years. Might pick up wood working one day.

74 and I CAN"T retire. Something about losing my house......My bills are incredibly high right now due to supporting 4 adults and 3 children. It looks like that may end in a few weeks, FINALLY. after three years of parasites. Like no rent no help with any bills. Long story as to why we didn't just kick them out.

Change the way you think about work. Pursue your dreams.
