Came home from work and there was a complete house contents sale next door and there were TV cameras filming for an episode of Everything Must Go (no, never heard ot it before but it is an afternoon TV programme in the UK).
Next day the local paper had an article about how a guy called Steve was sellling up to concentrate on his web site - RHP. Saddest thing was he had a load of Star Wars stuff for sale!!!
How close was that to fame eh
Great site, don't post that often but I do like playing (7 day TO min)

Russ, you have got me intrigued now.
Captain Adam, the article in the paper mentioned a chess site called Red Hot Pawn (I just shortened it to save the typing).
And the children are taking the p* out of me because they reckon itis ine of the worst daytime shows going and I am a total embarrasment to them now (if not before)!!
Look forward to hearing more

Ok guys, this is the story...
[this may go on a bit 😴 ]
I have a friend who has a wife who went on the Weakest Link - and won it. (I think everyone is familiar with that show.)
Anyway, she got a it of a taste for being on TV, so she applied to lots of shows, one of which was a bottom-of-the-barrel day time TV show called 'Everything Must Go'. To this day, I have never even seen an episode.
The programme is meant to be for people selling up and moving abroad.
So, my friend's wife is selected, but she does not have enough stuff to sell, so she hooks up with my wife, and they decide to do it together. No problems so far, nothing to do with me...
Then one day shortly afterwards, I come home from work and I find a woman with a camera at my house doing interviews. I introduce myself, then they all explain the show has been moved to my house as I have a bigger and brighter garden than my friend's house (the original location for filming).
I don't pay much attention to any of this, as I am not having anything to do with the show....until my friend's wife suggests I sell my car on the show. (This is how I plan to fund myself for a year while I work on the site, now I have quit my job)
I ponder over this for a few seconds, then agree that selling the car like this would be quite good, as I need to sell it in a hurry to pay for my 'new' venture, and this could be a fantastic way of creating lots of free publicity.
So, my involvement starts. The next day I come home from work, and a local paper is there wanting to do photos.
The day the show is actually being filmed, I stay at work, and only come back to sell my car to a couple of guys from a local garage. I spent the little time I was on camera in my RHP shirt, but they would not allow me to plug the site on TV, which was a great shame. (Their normal audience of approximately 2 people may have liked chess, you never know.)
Anyway, I'll be sure to let everyone know when it is on TV (UK, of course) if you are at all interested. I think it will be 29 minutes of my wife and my friends wife, with 60 seconds of me.

The car is (was) my beloved VX220 (an Opel Roadster in the States, I think), a boy's toy I loved dearly and already miss now it has gone. :'( I cant complain too much though, I owned it for a year, and it only depreciated 1k, and believe me, I really had my money's worth out of it!
In the picture, that is me sat in the car (in my RHP shirt!) with my wife next to me. (My son is in the car too, but he just too small to be seen.)
So that's it! Now Vaknso, what did you think I was going to say? 😉
Just to complete this story - Friday was my last day in employment, I have some contracting work ahead, which will help pay the bills, but in the main, for the next few months, I will be working on enhancing the site. As I have said previously, I have given myself one year to make this site (and others which I have planned) work to the point where they can sustain me (food for me, and new tyres for my new chosen mode of transport, a bicycle)

SWEET RIDE!!! How did you get that car Russ? its awsome! that car alone could make the show a hit!
>>How did you get that car Russ?
Well, there was a time when IT used to pay OK. Boy, do I miss those dot com boom days 🙂
But, it is not a massively expensive car (2nd hand), just not practical for most people's needs.
But it is really quick - and a true drivers car. No luxuries, all about fun. :'(:'(:'(:'(:'(
And we were parted in the summer. The worst time to break up😞
