Don't know about anyone else, but before i discovered this site, i had a pretty consistent 1500-1700 blitz rating. I've been playing here nearly two years and now my blitz rating is 1426!!! I loose game after game after game. I just don't get why, i'm often up in material but always find a way to blunder!! It's driving me nuts. Anyone else have this problem?? :'(

Yessir. I go onto uchess and yahoo sometimes and get humiliated by 1200s I would've whupped before I found this site. However I have improved OTB since my knowledge of openings has drastically increased. Go figure...

And if you play 100's of 5 0 games your rating here will plummet. Blitz and correspondance are as different as you can get while still playing chess.

One relies on pattern recognition and quick decisions, the other calculation and research.

I don't think internet ratings are anything to go by.. I too have smilar prob.. rating seams to go up and down by 200 points.. on this site seams more stable maybe because I only play few games at a time.. But last 3 otb games I played have lasted not more than 10 moves.. I need to find some decent otb players 😀

i dont have. on the other hand i play only occasionally long games.

so longer time controls more it hurts your chess...😛 i have known it for years but finally somebody else seems to get it too.

Hasn't hurt me too much. I get more variation if I play when I am
sleepy than just playing here. I play on the ICC, one minute
games and chessgames.com one min. and 3 and have been
about the same before and after playing here.

A few years ago I played 1/0, 2/0, and 1/1 bullet and kept myself between 1800-1900. Nowadays I find myself fighting to hang onto 1750. Maybe it's just lack of practice though.
