I was only there for about three hours, but it was great to meet a few of the members, hats off especially to The Slow Pawn who didn't have time to finish our game so I got a draw, Sicilian Smaug (who I discovered wasn't Italian) gave me five hundred excellent tips during a few games which will probably up my rating to 1201. I think tips are OK if combined with ability to use them; and Starrman who was still nice to me after I reminded him that I am a member of the Big Cats (albeit on sabbatical). Same compliment to marinakatomb, who I can state with absolute certainty is a thoroughly decent bloke.
Thanks to Russ and Chris for the pizza. I say this in spite of being vegan and not being able to have any, the offer and thought was very welcome and worth special thanks.
I'll say it now, make every effort to get to subsequent meet-ups, it was a good night.
