I just added a bunch of new bands to my station. They're playing very good stuff now.

If you select quickmix it picks stuff at random from anyones station. See if you can guess whose station the songs are from.

Doh! Before I got this radio station thing I typed a song and was mighty disappointed that it never seemed to play the song. Then I typed artists, and were equally disappointed that it kept playing songs in a style I didn't want.

😞

I thought, what to do? And then, like lightning from underneath my trashed shoes, it hit me. It's only been, what, a few months since Xanthos first opened my eyes to Pandora in one of these here threads. 😏

I type the songs I like, not the artists, and ta-da, I only get songs in that style. Oh man, I bet this is news to all of you, eh? 😏

Yeah! I'm genitals... geni... gen... a genius! 😀

Addition: Or not! 😞 What the hell!? Beatles has the same musical qualities as Thin Lizzy's "I'm still in love with you"!? Hell no! Monkees "Sweet young thing"? Oh, crap! I give up. I'll just try and enjoy whatever this station plays. Thumbs up, thumbs down, specific songs, artists... it still comes out the style of the sixties, and I'm pretty tired of it now. 🙁

you should know by now that everyone tries to sound like the beatles in the pop genre. you could pretty much be taken to any band in the world by typing the beatles.

Yeah, but I didn't type for the Beatles. I typed a Thin Lizzy rock ballad that I thought might be nice to have in the headphones while working, and what do I get? Sixties be-be-di-bop crap.

Wait. What's this? Wilson Picket? It's a grove? Hm, well at least it's soft and uninteresting enough to lay in the background. Guess I can get back to work now. 😕

I have been using Pandora for a bit now and reading the FAQ I find

Q: Can I listen to my stations from more than one computer?

As a registered Pandora user, you can access your stations from any computer. You may, however, only listen from one computer at a time.

How does RHP Radio work given the above statement.

Is there a multi listening account or something ?

I think its a case of one cut, one person. Like a bunch of people can listen to our stations, but each person gets a differant track to listen to. What is implied here is if you listen to your own station with two log-ins I think even that will have you listen to separate tracks. Not sure on that one, since I haven't tried it yet. I have a notebook and PC so I guess I could check it out. Notebook on the net at home through my wireless router.

"You may, however, only listen from one computer at a time."

That 2 me says the way RHP radio is running is against the T&C.

What I do not understand is that IF multiple account logins for the same account is against the rules, then why is it not blocked ?

I don't think that these people have the computer skills required to fully enforce all their terms & conditions.

For instance, you are only allowed to use the service in the USA. The control this by asking for your zipcode but anyone outside the USA can easily find a valid zipcode to enter.

They don't have the computer skills? Are you kidding me? They've built a truly complicated service there. Of course they have the computer skills. But can it be done? Now, there's a better question.

In case one, several users using the same account at the same time: yes, it can be blocked so that only one session per account is allowed. Why don't they do that then, you ask? I'm sure they have their reasons, but trust me, blocking several users on the same session is way easier to do then what they've already accomplished.

In case two, using the service outside of the US, it's impossible for them to tell exactly where you are. They can look at the IP-address and take a guess, but it's always just as likely that you went through a proxy half way across the world, so they really can't be sure where your physical location is.

Geesh china what drugs are you on - ofcourse they can block it.

My feeling is that they put in it the T&C so as to keep the licensing happy. Same goes for the US postcode bit.

I suppose the other possibility is that it is an oversight although I doubt it.

Or ofcourse I maybe misreading what they are saying about the same account having simultaneous access.

The thing is the site is using some sort of caching so I don't think you are in continuous contact with the server the whole time you are listening. I discovered this a couple of days ago when my internet connection kept going down regularly. There were several occasions when a new song started whilst I was disconnected from the internet.

That may well be true, but it probably has nothing to do with how the logins are controlled.

If the communication between server and browser is solely instigated by the browser, and only at intermittent periods, then how does the server know whether the last computer to connect to the account has logged off or just has sufficient data in its cache to not need to communicate?
