I think the ranking idea is a good one...anyone call Russ yet? As for the specific tournaments- the way I understand it, in order to to get the "international" title they have to play in a certain number of international tournaments. This list of recognized international tournaments is what you might be thinking of.

No no no, you guys are driving off the road with the idea.
We've already got rankings for highest ranking / most moves.

I want all this incorporated into (yet another) ranking system that takes into account all activities on the site:
(Average) rating
Total moves
Posts
Recs

Maybe also:
Tournament victories
Clan leader
Moderator 😉

Then the guy/girl with the highest score would be the 'King' etc. etc.

This will then show who the biggest Pawn Star of them all is...

There are certain standards to become FIDE, International or Grand Master ...

I'm not too sure what they are 100% but it works like that.

In order to become an IM you have to play a certain number or games against IM's and score a certain average of points. This you have to do (as far as I remember) on two occasions... If successful you get an IM awarded (same works for GM) ...

That's fairly accurate as a good friend of mine (not playing here) has been trying for years to get his IM and 'only' managed to score the average on one occasion so he still is aiming for the second time in order to get it :-)

If anyone knows the procedure in more details, please reply to this

For FIDE titles (GM, IM etc), you have to achieve 3 'norms' and have a certain rating.
You get a norm by achieving a pre-set standard in a specific event. These norms last a specific time before they expire (I think 5 years). So, if you achieve 3 norms in the 5 years and have a rating over the specified threshhold, you get the title. Once you've got it, its yours for life (apart from the recent case where somebody cheated to get a GM title and it was removed).
In certain cases you just go straight to the title. I think, for example, if you win the FIDE world junior championship you automatically get an FM title.

I think they get the GM title for the FIDE world junior championship under 18. But in most cases it's only a gesture since the top players already have the GM-title...
